Students completed a written exam on Minnesota history, covering early settlement, statehood, major events, and notable figures. The Roseau County Historical Society coordinates the contest to encourage interest in local and state history among youth.
Trophies and cash prizes were awarded to the top six students. This year’s winners were (seated L-R): 1st place Vansh Sharma (Roseau), 2nd place Olivia Mast (Roseau), 3rd place Avril Huener (Roseau), 4th place Ellie Belle Olson (Warroad), 5th place Gideon Bjorgaard (MCC), and 6th place Betty Efta (MCC).
Other participants included (back row L-R): Steele Marquis, Hadley Zimney, and Rozalyn Bieber (Badger); Emerie Parker (MCC); Katie Shinnaberry and Danika Gennes (Warroad); and Holden Swenson, Emmitt Peterson, and Brynlee Stenmark (Lancaster).
Border Bank, Roseau County area, Citizens State Bank of Roseau, and Security State Bank of Warroad sponsored cash prizes. Trophies were produced by Hanson’s Trophies and Engraving of Strathcona.
